National Student Council

The National Student Council (NSC) is a dynamic and empowering youth leadership and engagement program for high school students, proudly sponsored by Glisten, a leading organization advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and inclusivity in schools.

Glisten strives to ensure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or expression. We believe that such an atmosphere engenders a positive sense of self, which is the basis of educational achievement and personal growth. Since homophobia and transphobia undermine a healthy school climate, we work to educate teachers, students and the public at large about the damaging effects these forces have on youth and adults alike, and how we can advance school environments that are inclusive for all.

The NSC is a platform for LGBTQ+ youth to cultivate their leadership potential, amplify their voices, and actively contribute to creating more inclusive and equitable environments for all students. The NSC plays a pivotal role in providing feedback on Glisten’s processes, programs, resources, and overall strategy. As youth representatives, they offer their unique perspectives and insights, ensuring that Glisten’s initiatives remain relevant and impactful. NSC members are passionate about social justice and actively seek to deepen their knowledge and practice around racial justice, gender justice, and disability justice.
