Athletics and LGBTQI+ Youth

Here you’ll find research and resources for navigating athletic participation for LGBTQI+ youth.

Research has shown that nearly 46% of trans students report facing discrimination in school athletics, which increases a sense of isolation, harms mental health, and restricts the social and emotional benefits of being part of a team. States with inclusive policies see 74% lower discrimination and a 48% increase in girls’ sports participation versus schools with exclusionary policies.

Glisten believes that all students deserve the right to participate in school sports consistent with their gender identity. Learn more about our findings and what you can do to challenge discriminatory policies here.
