Know Your Rights
Know your rights in school as an LGBTQI+ educator, staff member, or student.
Harassment and discrimination against LGBTQ+ employees is prohibited by both federal law and the U.S. Constitution. Despite this, many LGBTQ+ educators still experience workplace harassment and discrimination every day.
Schools must abide by federal protections like Title IX, and many states have additional laws that reinforce non-discrimination rights for LGBTQ+ students and staff. These legal safeguards are a vital tool in keeping schools safe and respectful.
If you face harassment or unequal treatment, you don’t have to stay silent. Use this guide to explore your legal recourse options, including asking your Title IX coordinator for help, filing a formal complaint under state or federal law, or even pursuing legal action.
