Quantitative Research Assistant

This is a contract position analyzing the findings from our 2027 National School Climate Survey.

The National School Climate Survey (NSCS)

The National School Climate Survey is a nation-wide survey about holistic experiences of school climate, culture, and experiences of LGBTQIA2S+ students who are age 13 years and older and attended middle or high school in the US. 

Contractor Scope of Work

The contractor will assist with Glisten’s National School Climate Survey research by collaborating on quantitative data analyses of survey data. The contractor will collaborate with the Glisten Research team in (1) cleaning, analyzing and producing findings from the 2027 survey, and (2) data processing, cleaning and merging previous survey datasets and conducting over-time analyses.

 The contractor will be responsible for the following activities: 

  1. Collaborating on data analysis plans, including selection of appropriate statistical methods and tests
  2. Leading on data processing and cleaning of survey responses, particularly in regards to data quality and missing data, including merging multiple large datasets 
  3. Collaborating on updating, integrating, and maintaining  data dictionary/codebooks
  4. Collaborating on sample characteristic description, including coding write-in demographic responses from the survey
  5. Analyzing survey data to identify trends, patterns, and relationships– including analyses over time and additional analyses based on qualitative findings– based on Glisten Research team’s guidance 
  6. Processing and preparing open-ended survey responses for analysis in collaboration with qualitative research team members
  7. Coding and running statistical analyses in R
  8. Writing up methodology and findings for Glisten Research team to incorporate into the final research project
  9. Recurring check-ins with Glisten Research team as needed
  10. Additional related tasks as necessary

Contractor Deliverables

Contractor is responsible for completing and submitting the following deliverables: 

  • R Scripts and data analysis documentation 
  • Data dictionary/codebook
  • Data visualizations (e.g. tables, graphs, charts), as needed
  • A write up of methodology and findings of NSCS 2027 survey 

This is a remote position but meeting times will be between 9am-5pm Eastern.

Desired Skills

  • Proficiency in statistics, including Multivariate Regression, Power Analyses, Factor Analysis, Structural Equation Modeling
  • Demonstrable experience with R
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience working with large datasets  (requires computer with strong processing power)
  • Experience doing over-time analyses
  • Experience with processing demographic data including sexual orientation and gender identity and expression, and race/ethnicity identity data
  • Knowledge or familiarity with K-12 education research and/or school climate research
  • Familiarity with Qualtrics fraud detection software a plus
  • Adaptability and flexibility
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Demonstrable experience working with other research team members including qualitative researchers
  • Strong organizational skills

Estimated Project Timeline and Tasks

  1. Quantitative Research Assistant Contracted and on-boarded (including email setup and access, background check, data access) – By Sept 17, 2026
  2. NSCS27 Data Cleaning and Data Analyses – Sept 17 – Dec 1 2026
  3. NSCS Over-time cleaning and analyses – Dec 1, 2026 – May 14 2027
  4. Submit final deliverables and conduct any additional analyses as needed from focus group analyses — By May 14, 2027

Budget and Contract

  • The Contractor will be paid $8000 to complete the scope of work and its associated deliverables. 
  • The Contractor will also go through a background check before the contract is completed and the contractor is onboarded. 
  • The Contractor will sign and return the contract and non-disclosure agreement. 

Payment

The Contractor should submit invoices to Glisten Research at research@glisten.org 

At the time the contract is signed, the contractor will submit to research@glisten.org  their W-9, first invoice and the W9, and a valid email address to have you set up banking information with our bill.com portal. 

Payment Schedule:

  • After submitting all the deliverables for phase 1, you will submit the first invoice for $4000.
  • After submitting the remaining deliverables and completing the SOW, you will submit the second and final invoice for $4000

You will be paid within 30 days of submitting each invoice.
